JGI advances the power of individuals to take informed and compassionate action to improve the environment for all living things. Roots & Shoots (R&S) is the primary program of the Jane Goodall Institute in China . R&S is an international hands-on environmental and humanitarian education program, with the goal of creating positive change—for our communities, for animals and for the environment.

The Roots & Shoots Program in China has been widely successful in providing a platform for young people, in schools of all levels and universities, to organize extracurricular environmental, humanitarian and animal protection activities in their local communities. With over 300 R&S groups across China , we are building awareness and changing behaviors of tens of thousands of young people.
