There are four Roots & Shoots Offices supporting groups¡¯ activities in China: Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Nanchang. There are now more than 600 Roots & Shoots groups in China working with young people of all ages,from kindergarten to university students, all of them implementing small-scale projects that show care and concern for the environment, for animals and for the human community.
The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) In China
The mission of the Jane Goodall Institute is to advance the power of individuals to take informed and compassionate action to improve the environment for all living things. Roots & Shoots (R&S) is the primary program of the Jane Goodall Institute in China. R&S is an international hands-on environmental and humanitarian education program, with the goal of creating positive change ¨C for our communities, for animals and for the environment.
The Roots & Shoots Program in China has been widely successful in providing a platform for young people, in schools of all levels and universities, to organize extra-curricular environmental, humanitarian and animal protection activities in their local communities. With over 400 R&S groups across China, we are building awareness and changing the behaviors of tens of thousands of young people.
