"Caring for Animals at Home" Project

Improvements in the living standards of Chinese people have also seen a significant increase in the number of companion animals being raised at home, such as cats, dogs, fish, birds, hamsters, and rabbits, etc. Scientific research shows that living with companion animals can reduce the risk of certain diseases to mankind and increase the level of our health. According to a study from 2015, there were at least 100 million companion animals in China. The number of companion animals is expected to significantly increase in the next 10 years.

Roots & Shoots Beijing Office launched the "Caring for Animals at Home" – a companion animal welfare project – in 2017 so that owners could really understand their animals' needs and not just based on their own human-centric views, raise public awareness regarding the need for welfare of companion animals in China, and guide the public to an accurate understanding of the concept of companion animal welfare.
